In an interview with ENTR, the expert explains that the young voted not so much for a representative of Law and Justice, but against the government of Donald Tusk and the Civic Coalition. A large part of them were disappointed with the lack of real changes after the October 2023 election.
– On the one hand, leftist environments, which talk about the situation related to human rights, but on the other hand the expectations that were connected by both right -wing and left -wing environments of young people. This great inflation, the costs of living that are growing, uncertainty that is born in young, that it will somehow be developed, that this coalition that will take power in Poland will answer these real problems – says Dr. Nowakowska.
The political scientist emphasizes that the expectations of this group towards the political force, which would take into account their problems and challenges, were not met by dominant parties.
Due to disappointment with existing options, young voters are more and more clearly looking for representation in relatively new groups, such as the Confederation or the Together party. – In general, no one but Mentzen, Zandberg and Biejat directed the message about housing policy, payroll market, pay security and so on. So in this sense both Nawrocki and Trzaskowski, they left these young voters – explains Dr. Nowakowska.
The expert adds that the parties that began to gain significance from 2019 seem to respond to the needs of the youngest voters – both from the ideological and economic side. The political scientist believes that in the coming years these political forces can become key players on the Polish stage, realistically affecting the shape of future governments and social policy.
The term of office of the current president will formally end on August 6, 2025.
