xiaomi has officially unveiled its first electric SUV, the YU7, designed to tackle range anxiety and compete directly with the Tesla model Y.The YU7 was introduced in China, marking a significant step for the smartphone manufacturer into the electric vehicle sector.

The YU7 is slated for launch in July, with pricing details expected to be revealed then. It will be available in Standard, Pro, and Max versions, with the latter two featuring All-Wheel Drive (AWD).

Xiaomi YU7: Size, Range, and Performance

The Xiaomi YU7 is a mid to large-sized SUV, measuring 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,608 mm in height, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. The Model Y’s China variant measures 4,797 x 1,920 x 1,624 mm with a 2,890 mm wheelbase. The YU7 Pro and Max variants weigh in at 2,405 kg.

The Standard and Pro versions of the YU7 are equipped with a 96.3 kWh battery, exceeding the Model Y Long Range’s 80 kWh. According to Xiaomi, the Standard YU7 achieves a CLTC range of 835 km, surpassing the Model Y RWD by 242 km and the Long Range variant by 116 km. The real-world WLTP range remains to be seen.

“Xiaomi plans to ship the YU7 by July 2025, and thus the pricing remains elusive, though the company hints at ‘competitive’ positioning against alternatives.”

The Standard Xiaomi YU7 delivers 315 HP (with the Pro and Max versions reaching 681 HP) and has a top speed ranging from 240 to 253 km/h, depending on the variant. The Standard YU7 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds, while the Pro version achieves this in 4.3 seconds, matching the Model Y Long Range. The YU7 Max boasts an acceleration time of 3.2 seconds.

the YU7 incorporates design elements from the SU7, including waterdrop headlights and prominent halo taillights. The electric SUV features a leather interior with zero-gravity front seats and a panoramic display called “HyperVision.” The infotainment system and centre display are powered by HyperOS and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. It is available in nine exterior colors, including Orange, Green, and Silver Titanium.

For autonomous driving, the Xiaomi YU7 uses an Nvidia Thor chipset, similar to the SU7, providing a neural computing power of 700 TOPS. All models are built on an 800 V platform, enabling rapid charging capable of adding 620 km of range in 15 minutes.

While pricing details are yet to be announced, Xiaomi suggests a competitive stance against existing options. As a reference, the Tesla Model Y RWD is priced at CNY 263,500 (approximately USD 36,575).
