Berlin (dpa/tmn) – Whatsapp is getting some new features from messages to calls that were missed or not accepted to easier media management in the desktop app.
The ability to leave messages as a caller if the person you are calling has not answered (missed call messages) is basically a classic answering machine function.

The mailbox feature is not just limited to the ability to leave voice messages after voice calls fail: If no one answers a video call, you can also record a video note with just one tap. The person called can then listen to or watch both later.
According to the Meta subsidiary, these functions are also new in Whatsapp:
Speaker at the center of group video chats
– In group video chats, the speaker tile automatically enlarges so that everyone can follow the conversation more easily (Speaker Spotlight).
Better AI images and short videos from images
– External AI models such as those from Midjourney or Flux are now also used in chats with Meta AI. This should make it possible to create better images. Also new is the ability to animate images.
Media and documents centrally in one place
– A new media tab is being added to the Whatsapp desktop application (Windows and MacOS). Media, documents or links can be displayed, filtered or searched centrally across chats.
It may take some time until the new WhatsApp functions are available on all devices. If necessary, you should check the app stores to see whether updates for the messenger are available and install them.
