Police in Wellington have sealed off Pipitea Street in central Wellington as they respond to a callout to the area.
Pipitea Street in central Wellington has been blocked off to traffic and pedestrians by police as bomb squads are called in.
An RNZ reporter at the scene says a remote control robot can be seen opening a bin directly opposite the Indian High Commission.
The NZ Defence Force explosive ordnance disposal team is also attending.
A crowd of about 15 people are watching from behind the cordon.
