The President of the United States (US) Donald Trump gave a warning to the elected Mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani. This was the result of the two of them arguing with each other.

Trump asked Mamdani to be nice to him. He said Mamdani had delivered an angry speech against him.

Trump considered Mamdani to have made “very dangerous statements” in a victory speech delivered in Brooklyn, New York City.

“I thought his speech was like very angry. Of course angry at me, and I think he should have been nice to me. I’m the one who has to agree to a lot of things that are going to happen to him, so he got off to a bad start,” Trump said in an interview with Fox Newsreported Anadolu AgencyFriday (7/11/2025).

Mamdani reportedly delivered a direct message to Trump that read: “So, listen to me, President Trump, when I say this: To get to one of us, you have to get through to all of us.”

Trump, in his statement, reminded Mamdani to “respect Washington.”

“I think the statements he made are very dangerous. He has to have a little more respect for Washington. Because otherwise he has no chance of success, and I want to make it work — I want to make the city work. I don’t want to make it work. I want to make the city work, and we’ll see what happens,” Trump warned.

“I want to see this new mayor succeed, because I love New York. I really love New York,” he added.

Zohran criticizes Trump

Zohran Mamdani said he learned many lessons from the election for mayor of New York. Mamdani also learned lessons from the President of the United States (US) Donald Trump.

Mamdani said “merely diagnosing the crisis in the lives of working-class Americans is not enough. We have to make it happen.”

“This is a president who campaigned on the promise of cheaper grocery prices, and now… has gone even further by cutting SNAP benefits for nearly 2 million New Yorkers,” Mamdani said at a press conference as reported by CNN, Thursday (6/11/2025).

According to him, Trump’s current policies are different from his political promises. He believes that some of Trump’s policies have even made things difficult for citizens.

“Someone who is really making it difficult for them to buy groceries that cost the same as he was criticizing not too long ago,” he said.

“What scares Republicans across the country is the fact that we will actually put this agenda into action. And the contrast is something they can’t see,” the mayor-elect added.

Mamdani, a Democratic Party politician who is only 34 years old, managed to defeat former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo who ran as an independent candidate and Curtis Sliwa who was a Democratic Party candidate in the New York City Mayoral election on Tuesday (4/11) local time.

He made history as the first Muslim mayor of New York City.

Mamdani, who calls himself a democratic socialist, is running a platform focused on affordability and social services, promising free buses, universal child care services, government-run supermarkets, rent-stabilized housing and an increase in the minimum wage.
