Valencia Shipwreck: 1 Body Found in Labuan Bajo Search

The joint SAR team carried out the fourth day of searching for 4 Spanish foreigners, victims of KM Putri Sakinah which sank in Labuan Bajo, NTT. One woman’s body was found dead this morning.

“We received information from a resident of Serai Island, Labuan Bajo, Mr. Nasaruddin, that he saw a body floating on the edge of the waters north of Serai Island, Labuan Bajo,” said Head of the Maumere SAR Office as SMC (SAR Mission Coordinator), Fathur Rahman, in his statement, Monday (29/12/2025).

The body was found floating at coordinates 8° 37′ 30.78″S – 119° 36′ 52.398″ E, with a distance of 0.52 NM from the incident location at around 06.05 WITA this morning. The Joint SAR Team immediately went to the location where the body was found to evacuate the victim after receiving this information.

“The Joint SAR Team arrived at Labuan Bajo Marina Harbor at 07.30 WITA and the victim was immediately taken to Komodo Hospital using the KPP Labuan Bajo ambulance,” said Fathur.

Furthermore, after the body was evacuated, the victim’s family took the ambulance to the hospital for the identification process.

“The victim’s mother and family participated in the ambulance to ensure that the body found was her daughter’s through a medical identification process by the Labuan Bajo Regional Hospital forensic team,” said Fathur.

Currently the search process is continuing. The SAR team also deployed additional ships to carry out searches.

“Now the joint SAR Team has resumed searching for Spanish foreigners and today the SAR operation has been strengthened with the arrival of the KN SAR Puntadewa 250 Ship at 20.30 WITA (28/12), now they are carrying out the process of searching for victims together with other Joint SAR Teams,” said Fathur.

Previously, the sinking incident of the pinisi ship KM Putri Sakinah in the Padar Island Strait, Komodo National Park area, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), occurred on Friday (26/12/2025). It is known that the tourist ship was carrying the Valencia CF Women’s Team B coach and his family when the ship sank.

Initial information said the tourist ship was carrying a total of 11 people.

Head of the Maumere SAR Office as SAR Mission Coordinator, Fathur Rahman, explained that the ship’s passengers consisted of six tourists from Spain, four crew members and one tour guide. Seven people were successfully evacuated safely.

Of the total 11 people on board, four foreign tourists from Spain are reported to be still missing. Fathur Rahman said that the search had continued to be carried out by the joint SAR team since the incident.

“Three passengers were evacuated by the Nepton ship and four people were evacuated by a joint SAR team. Meanwhile, four foreigners from Spain are still being searched for,” said Fathur Rahman, Saturday (27/12/2025).

The Labuan Bajo Class III Port Authority and Harbormaster’s Office confirmed that one of the missing victims was the coach of the Valencia CF Women’s B Team, Martin Carreras Fernando. His three children are Martin Garcia Mateo, Martines Ortuno Maria Lia, and Martinez Ortuno Enriquejavier.
