Parts of the MAGA movement are turning against Donald Trump after the attack on Iran.

The bombings on Iran, which have taken out the country’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and large parts of the country’s military leadership, seem like a preliminary tactical success for the US and Israel.

But not everyone is satisfied.

The idea of ”America First” was a central premise in Donald Trump’s election campaign: He promised that the time for foreign operations that cost a lot of money and American lives was over, and that he would be a “president of peace”.

One of the most prominent MAGA voices, Congresswoman Majorie Taylor Greene, of Georgia, has had enough.

– We voted for “America First” and zero war, writes Greene on X, and calls the Trump administration “a bunch of sick fucking liars”

Greene was previously one of Trump’s closest supporters, but has been in open conflict with Trump since last autumn.

The American president has, among other things, called her “Marjorie Traitor Greene”.

– Disgusting

But Taylor Greene is not the only important right-wing voice to go down Trump’s throat after the Iran attack.

Tucker Carlson, one of the most influential voices on the conservative right in the United States, comes out hard against Trump in an interview with ABC News journalist Jonathan Karl on Saturday.

– It is absolutely disgusting and vicious, says Carlson about the Iran attack.

Carlson met Trump at the White House last week and reportedly urged him not to attack Iran. Karl points out that the attack splits the MAGA movement in the US.

Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones also warns, according to Rolling Stone, that the attack could make the US more vulnerable to terror.

Meets himself at the door

Hilmar Mjelde is a US expert and professor of political science at the University of Western Norway. He believes that the attack is a clear attempt to show off the US’s military power.

– Trump has always been very keen to show American strength, and it is clear that he equates that with using overwhelming military power abroad, writes Mjelde in an email to Dagbladet on Saturday afternoon.

He points out that Trump has previously promised not to involve the United States in more wars.

– Trump meets himself at the door when he starts another war. At the same time, a new regime in Iran will be in the interests of the United States, which is what he, as president, will work for.
