US President Donald Trump praised Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Wooler, describing him as a “great” person, after an interview with him as one of the candidates to succeed Jerome Powell as head of the US central bank, according to Reuters.
Trump said, according to Reuters, that 3 to 4 candidates are still in the final race to take over the position, with Powell’s 4-year term approaching the end of next May.
The US President added, in response to a question about Conservative Council member Michelle Bowman, that she is “wonderful,” indicating that she remains among the circle of names proposed.
Trump confirmed that he is looking forward to appointing a Federal Reserve Chairman who supports a “growth-friendly” monetary policy, hinting at his desire to change the bank’s orientations during the next stage.
In addition to Christopher Wooler and Michael Bowman, the list of candidates includes White House economic advisor Kevin Hassett and former Federal Reserve member Kevin Worsh.
