The Incident Unfolds
The incident was captured on the dashcam of Alan Watling, a 77-year-old retired engineer. Watling was in his Ford Focus, visiting a flat he owns in Maidstone, Kent. As he parked the car at the property’s forecourt, he observed a group of friends nearby.

Among the group was a girl who gestured towards Watling’s car. One of her friends then ran towards the vehicle and rolled over the bonnet. Initially, the teenager appeared to be injured, limping off and holding his buttocks, claiming to have been struck by the car.
The Driver’s Account
Watling insists he did not provoke the group in any way before the incident occurred. He described the encounter in detail, saying, “I went past them and there was nothing untoward to start with until I stopped. I was just carrying out a routine check at the flat, but as I pulled into the forecourt and was stationary, this young man made a beeline for me at some speed.”
