LAVAL, QC (March 19, 2026) – Laura Stacey contributed three goals to lead the Montreal Victory to a 4-1 victory against the Seattle Torrent on Thursday evening in front of a crowd of 10,033 spectators at Place Bell. This gain allows the Victory to join Boston and Minnesota at the top of the LPHF standings with 39 points in 20 games each. After a scoreless first period where both teams had chances, Catherine Dubois opened the scoring for the victory at 4:17 of the second period by redirecting an attempt around the net from Stacey. Montreal doubled its lead to 2-0 just over nine minutes later thanks to a spectacular get-out-of-jail-free goal from Stacey on a short-handed breakaway, where she stole the puck from a defender before racing toward the right post and putting a backhand shot into the top corner from a tight angle. Alex Carpenter closed the gap at 7:56 of the third period with a shot from the opposite side off a pass from Theresa Schafzahl, who was playing in her first game with Seattle. Skylar Irving then deflected a one-timer from Kati Tabin into the net at 9:00 of the third period to score her second goal of the season. Stacey completed the scoring for Montreal at 19:27 with an empty-net goal, also set up by Tabin. Ann-Renée Desbiens shined in front of the net with 24 saves to score a 12e win, while rookie Hannah Murphy suffered the loss with 19 saves on 22 shots. CITATIONS
Kori Chevriehead coach of the Victoire: “I think it was an excellent response from our group. It’s an experienced team. They have experienced a lot of situations and have a lot of matches under their belt. Even though we didn’t want the last match to end like this, we managed to take several positives from it. We were able to work more in depth on certain aspects that we wanted to improve, notably the five-on-six game. »
Laura StaceyMontreal’s assistant captain, on the team’s reaction after a tough loss: “I think it was in all of our heads. We were not satisfied. It was a pretty tough loss to take, but we thought it was better that it happened now rather than later in the season. We learned from it, and I think we did just that. We returned to base, had great discussions, analyzed the video, and had another learning opportunity this evening. I think we have taken a step forward. If we continue to take these steps every game, whether on small details or on bigger aspects like five-on-six, it makes a big difference. »
Steve O’RourkeTorrent head coach, on his team’s overall performance: “I think for 60 minutes we competed well and I liked the resilience of our group. In the third period, we came out and scored, we talked about going in sequences, and we scored that goal and then kept pushing. The resilience is there. We know we are missing important players, but everyone continues to work shift after shift, and we must continue in this direction. »
Mariah KeoppleTorrent defender, on her return to Montreal: “It was great. I even had fans write to me before the match to say that they were going to be there. I spent two seasons here and, from the first year, I was really embraced, so it’s really special to be back. They kind of took a gamble on me, and it was really nice to see everyone again, see the girls in the line again after the game. It’s always nice to come back. »
