The Théâtre des Aspres will host, Saturday January 3 at 8:30 p.m., the traditional New Year’s concert. This year again, the SÔlis orchestra, under the direction of its conductor Mehdi Lougraïda, promises a brilliant evening combining tradition, modernity and virtuosity.

For the second consecutive year, the orchestra is joining forces with the composer and musician Franck Garcia, the immense pianist Stéphanie Fontanarosa, as well as the percussionist Marc Dumazert, an eclectic and recognized artist. To this variable geometry formation will be added the singer Marylis Mérial, who attended the Perpignan conservatory and trained in musical comedy, who will bring all her vocal and stage energy to the evening.

The program for this edition will give pride of place to American classics, from the works of Gershwin, Charles Ives and Leonard Bernstein, to the great Broadway references. The evening will end with a suite devoted to popular and dance music: soul, funk, disco, house, and other genres that have shaped American musical culture.

From Aretha Franklin to Whitney Houston, from Frank Sinatra to the Brill Building composers, from Brian Wilson to Michael Jackson, without forgetting the disco divas.

A true tribute to what America has produced most preciously in terms of popular culture and the celebration of rhythm.

Founded in 2023 by Mehdi Lougraïda, SÔlis orchestra brings together 25 musicians from Perpignan, Lyon and Paris. The ensemble performs in France and abroad, and strives to defend contemporary musical creation. Its particularity: decompartmentalizing the symphonic repertoire by multiplying daring collaborations and sound immersions, to offer the public new experiences.

This Saturday, January 3 at the Théâtre des Aspres, it is an invitation to celebrate the new year with music, dance and a great show.
