Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, one of the sons of the former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanityis dead, announced Tuesday February 3, his advisor to one of the Libya Al-Ahrar channel. The circumstances of his death, however, still remain unclear.

His lawyer, Abdullah Othman Abdurrahim, claims that the 53-year-old Libyan, long seen as his father’s potential successor before the fall of the regime in 2011, was assassinated by four armed men. They “stormed the residence of Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi after neutralizing the surveillance cameras, then executed him”wrote the Libya Al-Ahrar channel on X, quoting his remarks. This same advisor had previously announced that Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi was dead in a publication on Facebook, without further details.

“For the moment, we don’t know” who are these armed men, Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi’s French lawyer, Marcel Ceccaldi, told Agence France-Presse (AFP). However, he clarified that he learned about ten days ago, from one of his client’s relatives, “that there were problems with his security”.
