A building in Rostov-on-Don, southern Russia, was set ablaze on Tuesday evening following a suspected drone attack. Teh incident marks another instance of attacks in the area, which is approximately 200 km (124 miles) from Ukrainian-controlled territory.

The building struck is reportedly located near the intersection of Khalturinsky Lane and Moskovskaya Street. Video footage circulating on social media depicts the aftermath of the event, showing meaningful damage.

Flames and smoke were visible from kilometers away.Rostov Region Acting Governor Yuri Slyusar stated the incident was caused by debris from a downed drone.

“In rostov-on-Don, a UAV crash caused an explosion and a fire on the roof of a four-story apartment building in Khalturinsky Lane,” Slyusar wrote on Telegram. He added that the fire was contained to 250 square meters (2,691 square feet),with no casualties,and 15 residents were evacuated.

Rostov has been repeatedly targeted due to its military importance. It hosts the headquarters of Russia’s Southern Military District, which commands operations in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. The region also houses airbases and oil refineries.

Russia Targets Ukrainian Energy Infrastructure

Concurrently, Russia intensified its attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, targeting a DTEK facility in the Donetsk region. The attack destroyed a factory, “paralysing” production. DTEK stated on their Telegram channel: “Russia attacked the energy sector again Yesterday, the enemy struck the DTEK enrichment plant in the Donetsk region.”

The statement continued, “The building was destroyed. The equipment was seriously damaged. Colleagues who worked on the shift survived. Rescuers extinguished the fire.” DTEK also noted that this was not the first attack on the enterprise, which provided coal for thermal generation in Ukraine, and that the factory’s work is now “completely paralyzed.”
