by Archynetys World Desk

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Tensions on the eastern border of NATO increased again after Poland announced the deployment of fighter jets and increased air defense readiness following Russia’s long -range missile attacks on the Ukraine region adjacent to its border.

The move was taken to anticipate the risk of spreading cross-border attacks that were repeatedly worried about the alliance member countries.

“In connection with the long -distance flight activities of the Russian federation that launched an attack on the Ukraine region, including the use of hypersonic missiles, Polish Air Force aircraft and Allied Flight operations in Poland airspace,” Polish military wrote on platform X, Thursday (8/21/2025).

The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces stressed that all available strengths and assets have been activated according to procedures. “The standing fighter jet pair has been deployed, while the air defense system and reconnaissance radar reached the highest level of readiness,” the statement said.

The Polish military added that the action was taken to “ensure the security of the Republic of Poland and its citizens,” especially in areas directly adjacent to Ukraine and affected by Russian military operations.

Poland’s steps emerged after Russia launched an air strike overnight to the city of Lviv, West Ukraine, which was only tens of kilometers from the Polish border. The Mayor of LVIV, Andriy Sadovyi, said the city was again tense the night due to a combination attack of Drone Shahed made by Iran and Russian missiles.

“LVIV experienced a noisy night. The enemy launched a joint attack with Drone Shahed and Missile. They returned to hit Jalan Olena Stepanivna, just like a month ago. The initial report showed fatalities,” Sadovyi wrote in Telegram.

“One person died and two others were injured in this attack. All emergency services have worked at the location. Information about fires in several other locations has also been received and is being examined. The Emergency Response Commission is being formed,” he added.

The Polish military statement confirmed that his party remained in full readiness to respond to the development of the situation and monitor conditions on an ongoing basis.

The Ukraine Air Force recorded Russia fired 574 drones and 40 missiles. The air defense system succeeded in bringing down 546 drones and 31 missiles.

Concerns about the effects of abundance of war are not new. Since Russia’s full invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, a number of incidents have involved the territory of neighboring NATO members, such as the fall of missile debris in Romania, which triggered high preparedness in the eastern line of the alliance.

Long distance air strikes and Russian drones to Ukraine have also repeatedly triggered allied air patrols and border supervision missions.
