As United States negotiators prepare to travel to Moscow next week, there are growing concerns that Russia isn’t prepared to compromise to secure peace with Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has told reporters overnight that the US proposal offers a starting point for talks and that Ukrainian forces need to pull back or be overrun by Russia’s bigger army.
Ukraine and its European allies say any peace deal must protect Ukraine’s security and avoid terms that hand Moscow advantages gained on the battlefield.
