The Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) payment system is one of the breakthroughs in the financial sector in Indonesia. This system has encouraged the cashless generation. With QRIS, payments for various matters will be easier, just scan the item and you can pay.

QRIS has also been widely used by all traders, both in luxury malls, supermarkets, small stalls, and even street vendors. However, until now we still often find traders who charge additional fees for transactions with QRIS.

What are the actual rules, are there really admin fees for QRIS?

According to Bank Indonesia‘s explanation in a post on social media @bank_indonesia, so far the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) for transactions under IDR 500 thousand specifically for micro businesses (UMI) is 0%, aka free.

“Transactions up to IDR 500 thousand specifically for Micro Enterprises (UMI), the QRIS Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) fee is 0%,” wrote Bank Indonesia, quoted on Sunday (11/1/2026).

So traders as merchants actually don’t need to pay any administration for every QRIS transaction under IDR 500 thousand.

Meanwhile, for transactions above IDR 500,000 and other business categories, the MDR QRIS fee is not charged to buyers as consumers. So as a buyer at any merchant you should not have to pay admin fees.
