The incident took place in Roseburg, Oregon, in October. Dejah Maynard said that while she was doing laundry, the bleach bottle slipped from her hand and fell to the ground, splashing the liquid on her face. Rubbing his eyes in panic, Maynard rinsed for a short time and went to sleep because he did not feel any pain.

HE COULD NOT OPEN HIS EYES IN THE MORNING
However, when she woke up in the morning, the young woman noticed that her right eye was completely swollen and her vision was blurred, and she rushed to the hospital. Doctors found that the bleach remained under his eyelid overnight and an ulcer formed on his cornea.

MORGAN LENS WAS APPLIED
At the hospital, Maynard was fitted with a Morgan Lens, which is used for chemical burns. This device cleans chemical substances by pumping water into the eye at high pressure. Maynard, who was treated with steroids and antibiotics, was urgently referred to an ophthalmologist.
VISION LOSS OF 5-10 PERCENT
During the checks, it was determined that there was a permanent vision loss of 5 to 10 percent in his right eye. Maynard, who is waiting for a new glasses prescription, said that he will be much more careful when using bleach after what he experienced.

“MY BIGGEST MISTAKE WAS SLEEPING”
Describing the process she went through, the young mother said, “I thought there was no problem when there was no pain in my eye. Going to sleep was the biggest mistake I made. Doctors said that if I had been awake, the chemical could have been thrown out with tears.”
“IT WAS LIKE THE BROKEN GLASS WAS SINKING”
Stating that the Morgan lens was very painful, Maynard said that the device, which had to be worn for two hours, could only last an hour and a half:
“It was like shards of glass were stinging my eyes. It was literally like torture.”

“WASH IMMEDIATELY AND FOR A LONG TIME”
Saying that he was traumatized after the incident, Maynard warned everyone:
“If bleach gets into your eyes, wash them immediately and for a long time. People can lose their eyesight completely because of this. I was lucky, but the result was still very severe.”
