PS6 Release Date: New Report Predicts 2027-2028 Launch

The release times for the new consoles are quite vague given the current price apocalypse of RAM and storage space. There have been numerous reports of delays, with the most recent citing a 2029 release citing a 2029 release, but nothing has been communicated directly from Microsoft or Sony. The typical life cycle of a console is seven years, which means that 2027 should mark the arrival of new consoles, and it looks like that will probably be the case, according to a known leak.

The information comes from Moore’s Law Is Dead on YouTube (link below). MLID has shared details about the new consoles, particularly the AMD APUs that will be equipping them for some time. In the latest video, MLID expands on a comment on its Patreon regarding the PS6 release schedule. The commenter claims that Sony won’t delay the console, at least not by much, because it would be more expensive to delay it than to release it on time at a higher price.

MLID echoes this opinion and adds that the PS6 “will almost certainly be released in 2027, if not probably early 2028. I don’t think it will be delayed until 2029” Sony paid AMD millions of dollars for the custom APU and paying extra for RAM for the first six months of the console’s life is not worth delaying the console. Additionally, MLID claims to have seen documents containing clauses from Sony’s contracts with AMD and TSMC, and these documents mention the second quarter of 2027 for production deadlines. If Sony were to push back these deadlines, it would lose its 3nm manufacturing allocation and could be pushed back to 2030.

The leak also mentions that Sony launched the PS5(buy on Amazon) in 2020 during COVID 19 and that despite reports of delays at the time, the console still launched. So even if Sony gets less RAM or more expensive RAM than it wanted, it won’t delay the PS6. At most, there could be a delay of six months, until April 2028, for tax time, but nothing more. Finally, citing behind-the-scenes sources, the prolific leaker said that RAM prices are expected to improve by the end of the year, and even more so by early next year, which will allow Sony to decide whether the console will launch in late 2027 or early 2028.
