Pope Leo XIV said he was told that US President Donald Trump was trying to end the war with Iran. He said Trump was looking for a “solution” to end the war currently raging in the Middle East.
“I was told that President Trump recently stated that he wants to end the war, hopefully he is looking for a way out, hopefully he is looking for a way to reduce the amount of violence, the bombing,” the Pope told reporters as he left his residence in Castel Gandolfo, outside Rome, for the Vatican, reported by AFP, Wednesday (1/4/2026).

That, the Pope said, “would be a significant contribution to eliminating the hatred that is being created and that continues to increase in the Middle East and elsewhere”.
“I will of course continue to call on all world leaders to say ‘Go back to the negotiating table for dialogue, let’s find a solution to the problem’,” said the 70-year-old American pontiff.
Pope Leo then touched on the Easter season that Christians will observe this weekend. According to him, now is the right time.
“This should be the holiest and most sacred time of the year. This is a time of peace, a time for deep reflection,” said Leo.
“But as we all know, once again in the world, in many places we see so much suffering, so much death, even innocent children. We constantly call for peace, but unfortunately many people want to promote hatred, violence and war,” he continued.
