On The Run Since 2016, ‘El Doctor’…

Luís Macias Nieto had been arrested and tried in Lisbon in 2012, but was eventually released “because the preventive detention period had expired” before sentencing. This week, PJ picked him up to serve his sentence for aggravated drug trafficking.

This week, the Judiciary Police (PJ) sent a team to Colombia to bring to Portugal Luís Macias Nieto, an important drug trafficker arrested in the country and who was awaiting extradition to Lisbon, where he will have to serve an 11-year prison sentence for aggravated drug trafficking.

In a statement released by the national leadership this Saturday, the PJ indicates that “the extradited man, who in international criminal circles was known by the nickname ‘El Doctor’, was convicted by Portuguese justice in a process initiated” on July 31, 2012, following of an operation by the PJ’s National Unit to Combat Drug Trafficking in Costa de Caparica.
