The foreign ministers of our country and Ukraine have agreed to continue cooperation to resolve the issue of North Korean prisoners of war in Ukraine in a manner consistent with international law and humanitarian principles.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun met with Foreign Minister Andriy of Ukraine on the occasion of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in France on the 27th local time and agreed on the issue of North Korean prisoners of war.

Previously, on the 6th, in response to a question about the repatriation of North Korean prisoners of war in the National Assembly Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee’s inquiry on pending issues, Minister Cho responded, “I met directly with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister and received assurances that North Korean soldiers will not be repatriated to Russia or North Korea.”

At yesterday’s meeting held at the request of the Ukrainian side, Minister Cho expressed hope that meaningful progress will be made soon as diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine continue.

He also said that the Korean government is also closely watching related trends with great interest.

The G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was attended by G7 member countries and the foreign ministers of Korea, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, India, and Brazil.
