Lando Norris won the sprint qualifying at the Interlagos circuit. The McLaren driver recorded a best lap of 1:09.243 min. Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) and Oscar Piastri also in McLaren finished second and third. Max Verstappen (Red Bull) was only sixth.

The weather before the start of the first segment of sprint qualifying was warm and dry. The air temperature was 20 degrees Celsius and that of the asphalt – 38. There was no chance of precipitation until the end of this session.

All drivers left the pits after the start of SQ1 at the Interlagos circuit. According to the rules, the tires used were medium both now and in the second segment. The many cars caused heavy traffic on the short track in Sao Paulo

Norris and Piastri set the pace after the first attempts in SQ1 at the Interlagos circuit, having also done so in practice earlier today. The two McLaren drivers had a clear advantage over everyone else. Russell, Verstappen and Gasly were in the top 5. Leclerc and Hamilton were a bit further back. For the time being, Albon, Ocon, Colapinto, Sainz and Tsunoda were in the knockout zone.

There was massive traffic at the end of SQ1 which had an impact on the times of certain drivers. Among those eventually dropped were Colapinto, Lawson, Tsunoda, Ocon, and Sainz. Antonelli was a hair’s breadth away from relegation, but ended up finishing 15th and moving on. Norris remained the leader followed by Verstappen.

Alonso led after the start of the first attempts in the second segment of the session. Leclerc remained four tenths behind the Spaniard after his first lap. Verstappen returned the gas, while Hamilton was only seventh. The Ferrari driver is in danger of being dropped unless he improves significantly.

Norris and Piastri were yet to record flying laps. The pair settled into second and third as Alonso continued to lead. For the time being, Hamilton, Albon, Gasly, Bearman and Bortoletto were in the danger zone. The seven-time world champion struggled with his car.

Alonso eventually finished in first position in SQ2 and moves on. Norris, Russell, Piastri and Antonelli finished behind him. At the same time, Hamilton, Albon, Gasly, Bortoletto and Bearman ended their participation in the session. Leclerc spun but managed to continue forward.

In the third segment of the Interlagos sprint qualifying, all participants were on the Pirelli soft tires. Russell was the first to record a time and lead the standings. The Mercedes driver was immediately overtaken by Antonelli and Norris. The Brit nailed the clock at 1:09.271 min. Piastri set the fourth time until the rest of the drivers had recorded a lap.

Piastre scored a third and was unable to dislodge Antonelli. Norris improved his score by 28 thousand. Alonso finished fourth, while Verstappen was only sixth. Russell qualified fourth and sent Alonso one place back. Stroll, Leclerc, Hadjar and Hulkenberg completed the top 10.
