There are the 10 most stolen cars in the US. Some models are sedans, but quite a few SUVs are also the target.
The number of car thefts in the US is still on the rise. However, overall there was a decline compared to the previous year. According to the US National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), throughout the first six months of 2025, there were 334,114 cases of theft. As reported by Carscoops, the figure decreased compared to the previous period which reached 435,754 cases. Of the hundreds of thousands of theft cases, there are several cars that are often targeted by thieves.

Even in the first six months of 2025, the number of thefts will reach tens of thousands of units. In terms of models, most are sedans, followed by pickup trucks and SUVs. In first position, for example, there is the Hyundai Elantra. In the US, in 2021 the TikTok ‘Kia Boys’ went viral which actually triggered vehicle theft nationwide. This makes two Hyundai cars in the top position. The rest is still dominated by well-known models with high sales volumes.

Some cars that are vulnerable to being stolen include the Honda Accord, Chevrolet Silverado, and Honda CR-V. So, here is a list of the most frequently stolen cars in the US.
1. Hyundai Elantra: 11,329 theft cases
2. Hyundai Sonata: 9,154 theft cases
3. Honda Accord: 8,531 cases of theft
4. Chevrolet Silverado 1500: 8,600 cases of theft
5. Honda Civic: 6,396 cases of theft
6. Kia Optima: 6,011 cases of theft
7. Ford F-150: 4,996 cases of theft
8. Toyota Camry: 4,986 cases of theft
9. Honda CR-V: 4,889 cases of theft
10. Kia Soul: 4,380 theft cases
This theft must actually be prevented. The NICB still recommends crucial things to prevent theft. First, obviously lock the car doors. If needed, additional safety lock. Always carry the car keys wherever you go and don’t leave the engine running when you get off, even for a moment. Make sure to park in a well-lit area and add steering lock.
