People enthusiastically packed the people’s bazaar in the National Monument (Monas) area, causing long queues to exchange coupons for basic necessities and clothes. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya apologized for the inconvenience felt by the public due to the long queues.

“Then I’m sorry there were people queuing. We’ve actually opened a lot of doors, but that’s true, enthusiasm was high so the queue was a bit long,” said Teddy after reviewing activities at Monas, Central Jakarta, Saturday (28/3/2026) evening.

He said, even though there was crowding, the event generally ran smoothly, including in terms of security. The government has also provided various facilities to maintain visitor comfort while waiting.

“But yes, there is food, there are drinks. I asked them one by one, they (residents) realized that it’s okay to queue, it’s called enjoying the atmosphere of Monas at night, the lights, music and so on,” he said.

Teddy said this activity was the first time it had been held in the Monas area post-Lebaran, at the direction of President Prabowo Subianto to extend the happy atmosphere of Hari Raya for the community. Previously, similar activities had been held at the Palace and received a high response from the public.

“Then Mr. President wanted to make the atmosphere of the joy of Eid still felt, he created an event like this,” said Teddy.

In this activity, the government distributed around 100 thousand coupons worth Rp. 500 thousand per coupon which could be exchanged for various needs, from basic necessities to items such as clothes, shoes, bags, school supplies and worship equipment. These products come from micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) imported from various trade centers in the Jabodetabek area, such as Tanah Abang Market, Senen Market and Ular Market.

Apart from that, around 1,000 street vendors were involved to provide free food and drinks, with a total of around 300 thousand portions prepared for visitors.

Teddy added that the high level of public interest has become material for the government’s evaluation of future implementation. Including the possibility of making similar events a regular agenda.

“This is the first time, of course we are sure Mr President wants the best, yes it will definitely be routine,” he added.

A resident of Tambora, West Jakarta named Maisaroh also enjoyed the activities held by the government. He admitted that he queued for about four hours to exchange his coupon.

“Queue at 2 (afternoon), this (afternoon) just finished. More than 4 hours, you have to be patient,” said Maisaroh when met.

Even so, he stated that the contents of the basic food items distributed were very useful for everyday use.

“There are eggs, oil, rice, chicken, koko clothes and mukenah. Thank God for blessings, I’m happy. The basic necessities are really necessary for daily needs,” he concluded.
