Shortly after, Trump praised her on his social network Truth by sharing a 21-second video of the prime minister and reporting a tweet from LynneP in which the prime minister is praised. “Giorgia Meloni challenges the EU and tries to obtain a direct trade agreement with Trump. Well done Meloni. It’s a brilliant move”, is LynneP’s post accompanied by another video.

“There are forces that seek to divide us, to redefine our history and destroy our shared traditions. They call it the woke culture,” declared Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in a video message at the gala for the 50th anniversary of the National Italian American Foundation in Washington, in reference to the controversies that have characterized Columbus Day in America in recent years. “It is an attempt to erase the foundational history of Italian Americans and deny their special place in this nation. We won’t let them. Columbus Day is here to stay,” added the Prime Minister, thanking Donald Trump for reinstating the celebration this year. “Allow me to quote the beautiful proclamation that President Trump made last week – added Meloni – ‘As we celebrate the legacy of Columbus, we also recognize the contributions of the countless Italian Americans who, like him, have contributed ceaselessly to our culture and way of life. Even today, the United States and Italy share a special bond rooted in the timeless values of faith, family and freedom.’ “Well said, President Trump, thank you,” the prime minister added.
