In recent days, the transition from freezing temperatures to mild weather has led to soapy roads in several places in the country.

On Friday morning, the Innlandet police district received reports of both slippery roads and accidents, and traffic operator Vegard Hornes Halvorsen at the Road Traffic Center issued a clear warning:

– There is an ice sheet under the water, because it is still cold on the ground. It’s a really scary road, he told Dagbladet.

Double digit heat degrees

Leonidas Tsopouridis, state meteorologist at the Meteorological Institute, tells Dagbladet that the warm air masses that have blown from southern parts of Europe have affected the whole country on Friday.

– It is unusual to see such mild temperatures in several places in the country at the same time. In addition, it has been windy and rainy blowing windwhich results in higher temperatures, says Tsopouridis.

Especially in Tafjord in Møre and Romsdal, it was mild with 13.7 degrees on the night of Friday. Sunndalsøra was just behind with 13.6 degrees, then Lysebotn in Rogaland with 12.2 degrees and Bergen in Vestland with 11.3 degrees.

In Eastern Norway, Drammen boasted temperatures above ten degrees. Nine degrees were measured in Oslo, and the meteorologists could therefore confirm that it was just as hot in the capital as in Marrakech in Morocco.

WINTER: Sunday will be wintry throughout the country. In both Northern and Southern Norway, there will be more snow and lower temperatures. Screenshot: Yr.no

It is hot in Norway now, compared to the rest of Europe 🌡️

📍Oslo is one of the warmest capitals in Europe.
📍Haugesund is warmer than both Tunis and Marrakech.
Why? Norway lies in a narrow belt of warm air from the Atlantic, while a large area of cold air lies over the Mediterranean.

Winter comeback

The meteorologist brings a bit of good news:

– On Saturday, there are good chances for longer periods of sunshine in Eastern Norway and Southern Norway. Also in south-western parts of the country, such as in Stavanger, the best day will be Saturday – with the possibility of sun.

However, the weekend will be characterized by winter making a comeback.

The warm air masses that have blown in over the country from a south-easterly direction are replaced by a more north-westerly wind that brings cooler air from the Norwegian Sea.

– From Saturday afternoon, you will notice the change, and especially from Trøndelag and northwards, which will be replenished with snow. But there is also a risk of snow showers in several places in the eastern mountains of southern Norway, right down to the lowlands on Sunday, says Tsopouridis.

Do you live in Eastern Norway and are planning the weekend’s activities? Here is the weather report:

Tomorrow there will be rest and a lot of sun ☀️ A good trip day 🥾

On Sunday it will be colder and there will be periods of snow ❄️ Along the coast it will be like sleet.

– One should not be surprised if it is winter in Møre and Romsdal, and in northern and inner parts of Eastern Norway, which will get snow again, he says.

The meteorologist states that there is still a small question mark about how the precipitation will look in the area around Oslo and the Oslofjord. Here, the precipitation will probably come as sleet.

– In terms of temperature, there will be quite a big difference from the mild temperatures we have experienced now. It will be difficult to get temperatures higher than two to three degrees, says Tsopouridis.

In the north, it will be very wintry with both snow and freezing temperatures.

New mild air masses

After a wintry quick visit at the weekend, new mild air masses will arrive over the country on Monday.

But instead of the warm air masses from Spain and France that we experienced before the weekend, from Monday the air masses will blow from the Atlantic Ocean.

– It will be quite warm, but not as warm as the temperatures we saw on Friday, says Tsopouridis and adds:

– In short, you can say that there will be some “yo-yo” weather in the coming days.
