Mañueco: More Funds for Fires & Public Sector Pay Rise in Budget Extension

The Governing Council of the Junta de Castilla y León has approved this Tuesday the Decree that regulates the extension of the General Budgets of the Community of 2024 as of January 1, 2026, an agreement that guarantees both the application of the salary increase to public employees from the month of January and compliance with the commitments regarding fire prevention and extinction.

The Minister of Economy and Finance and spokesperson for the Board, Carlos Fernández Carriedo, has explained that this extension, which will be published tomorrow, December 31, in the Official Gazette of Castilla y León (Bocyl), will allow “facilitate and clarify the daily management of available resources” of the autonomous departments and ensure the execution of the main commitments of the Executive.

As recalled, the Community “part of an advantage” by having a non-financial spending limit already approved by the Cortes of Castilla y León, which sets the spending capacity for the next year and serves as a reference “in terms of deficit, debt and spending rule.”

Likewise, Fernández Carriedo has stressed that, despite not having approved new accounts for 2026, there is a budget project presented in the Cortes that will serve as guidance during the extension period. “This measure allows us to maintain the normal functioning of the administration, guarantee salary increases for public employees and comply with the commitments made regarding fires,” he highlighted. In this sense, the counselor has specified that the payrolls of public personnel will incorporate the salary increase from January, in accordance with the Decree-Law recently approved by the Board and sent to the Cortes for validation.

Regarding the fire operation, Fernández Carriedo has reported the approval of two agreements in the Government Council that contemplate specific funds for the acquisition of material and the improvement of staff working conditions.

The decree, which consists of four articles, an additional provision and a final provision, establishes the extended credits and subjects their disposition to compliance with the current budget stability, debt and spending rule objectives. In addition, it regulates the allocation of expenses during the extension period in accordance with Order EYH/1125/2025 and clarifies that all references to the 2026 budget will be understood to be made to the 2024 extension.
