LOGAN, Utah – Utah State volleyball sophomore opposite side hitter Loryn Helgesen has been named the Old Trapper Mountain West Offensive Volleyball Player of the Week the conference announced on Monday.
Helgesen led USU with 41 total kills in a pair of home wins over San Diego State (3-2) and UNLV (3-1), averaging 4.56 kills and 5.00 points per set on the week. Helgesen tied her career-high with 23 kills against the Aztecs, hitting .444 on 45 total attempts with only three errors. She proved vital in the decisive fifth set, recording a team-high three kills to secure the win. Against the Rebels, Helgesen finished with 18 kills to lead USU in kills in both matches.
It is Helgesen’s first time in her career receiving a weekly award from the Mountain West. Utah State has now had six different players receive a weekly award from the conference this season.

Utah State heads back to the road for rematches against the previous week’s opponents. USU will first face San Diego State on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. (MT), before again taking on UNLV on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m. (MT).
