Xiaomi is preparing an extended SU7: a small increase, but a significantly more comfortable cabin

After the successful debut with the first two models – Xiaomi SU7 sedan and Xiaomi YU7 crossover – the manufacturer is already preparing the next step. Camouflaged prototypes of the extended version of the electric sedan have been spotted on Chinese roads, retaining the sleek silhouette of the standard SU7, but with one major difference – increased length. This additional increase in space is concentrated behind the B-pillar, which clearly indicates a focus on second-row passenger comfort.

Potential changes of the new version and comparison with the existing model

Xiaomi SU7 already in the basic version is an impressive, large sedan with a length of 4997 mm and a wheelbase of 3000 mm. Initial estimates from photos suggest that the new version could reach as much as 5,200 mm in length, with the wheelbase extended by another 80-150 mm. In the world of automotive design, this is a significant increase, which directly means more legroom for the rear passengers. Such an extension significantly changes the character of the car. If the regular SU7 is positioned as a high-performance driver-oriented electric car, then the extended modification will be directed to the business class segment, where the comfort of the passengers in the back is highly valued. Analysts are already seeing parallels with the Porsche Panamera Executive, created specifically for customers with a driver.

What will the added cabin comfort be like?

According to preliminary information, the Xiaomi SU7 L (this name is unofficial) could receive wider and more comfortable rear seats, separate screens for entertainment, as well as additional functions, such as a small refrigerator. It will effectively turn the back row into a mobile office or lounge area, offering the luxury often found in luxury limousines.

Technical improvements and anticipated challenges

The extended body design and increased weight require not only design but also technical improvements. Engineers will have to recalibrate the suspension system to maintain a balance between comfort and handling. However, the upgrade is expected to retain the 800-volt architecture that enables fast charging, as well as the modern intelligent driver assistance systems already known from the SU7.

Xiaomi’s ambitions and plans for the near future

The appearance of this prototype confirms that Xiaomi’s automotive ambitions are not limited to just two models. According to insiders, the company is simultaneously testing several new electric cars, including the GT version of the YU7 crossover with improved dynamic characteristics. Currently, the elongated sedan is still in the early stages of testing and is carefully hidden under camouflage. Xiaomi is not yet giving any information about the official name, exact specifications or release date. However, analysts predict that the premiere of the model on the market could take place already at the beginning of 2026.

Price and potential competitors

Although there is no official information on the price, market sources predict a cost of over 400 thousand yuan (approximately 47.6 thousand euros). This would allow the SU7 L to occupy a niche position between domestic competitors such as BYD Han (starting at 33.3 thousand euros) and imported premium models, especially the Tesla Model S (starting at 81.6 thousand euros in China).
