New from Xiaomi: The elongated SU7 promises royal comfort
Table of Contents
The world of cars is constantly evolving, and leading manufacturers try to surprise their customers with innovative solutions. After a successful debut with the first two models – the Xiaomi SU7 sedan and the Xiaomi YU7 crossover – the Chinese technology giant Xiaomi is already preparing the next exciting step. Camouflaged prototypes of an extended version of the SU7 have been spotted on the roads in China, which, while maintaining the original model’s neat silhouette, offer a significant improvement – an enlarged interior.
Excellence in the second row: More space and luxury
The extra length seems to be added mainly to the area behind the B-pillar, clearly indicating the main focus of this modification: passenger comfort in the second row of seats. Although the standard Xiaomi SU7 is already an impressively sized sedan with a length of 4,997 mm and a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, the new version, according to initial estimates, could reach as much as 5,200 mm in length, while the wheelbase has been increased by 80-150 mm. Such an extension is a significant step in car design, which directly means much more legroom for rear passengers.
This extension fundamentally changes the character of the car. If the standard SU7 is positioned as a powerful electric car intended primarily for the driver, then the new, extended modification is obviously aimed at the business class segment, where the priority is excellent comfort in the second row of seats. This is similar to how the Porsche Panamera Executive was created for customers who use chauffeur services more often.
Future visions: A mobile office or a luxurious lounge
It is possible that the Xiaomi SU7 L (unofficial name) will receive even wider and more comfortable rear seats, separate entertainment screens and even additional luxury options, such as a small refrigerator. It could turn the rear seat area into a functional mobile office or even a luxurious lounge, allowing passengers to work or relax during the journey in unprecedented comfort.
Technical improvements and future perspectives
Of course, the extended body design and increased weight also require technical adjustments. Engineers will have to recalibrate the suspension to maintain the perfect balance between comfort and handling. However, the new model is expected to retain the 800-volt architecture that enables fast charging, as well as all the advanced smart driving assistance systems already known from the SU7.
The appearance of this prototype proves that Xiaomi’s ambitions in the automotive industry are not limited to just two models. Insiders say the company is testing several other new electric vehicles in parallel, including a more powerful GT version of the YU7 crossover. Currently, the extended sedan is only in early testing stages, and its exact name, specifications and release date are not yet known. However, analysts predict that the premiere on the market could take place already at the beginning of 2026.
Price range and competition
Although there is no official word on the price yet, market sources predict that the new model could cost more than 400,000 yuan (around 47,600 euros). This would allow the SU7 L to occupy an interesting position between domestic competitors such as BYD Han (starting at 33,300 euros) and imported premium segment models such as the Tesla Model S (starting at 81,600 euros in China).
