The Hewitt School Seeks Upper School Learning Specialist for 2025-2026

NEW YORK – The Hewitt School, an independent K-12 girls’ school in New York City, is seeking a full-time Upper School Learning Specialist for the 2025-2026 school year.
Job Summary
The Upper School Learning Specialist will manage student evaluations,create and implement student education learning plans (including learning accommodations),and develop and implement effective individual and small group instruction to support a wide range of learning challenges. The specialist will also coach and serve as a resource for upper school teachers in the implementation of effective teaching practices, teach a ninth-grade seminar focused on executive functioning, and serve as a member of the upper school student support team.
Additional responsibilities include maintaining confidentiality, managing multiple projects, training as a Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) coordinator, coordinating student accommodations and testing through College Board and ACT, and communicating effectively with students, colleagues, and families.

Qualifications
Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and social justice, a master’s degree in education with a specialization in special education or literacy, experiance with upper school social-emotional learning, and experience working with upper school students.
Desired qualifications include knowledge of and experience working in an independent school, experience in special education mathematics, experience with inquiry-based pedagogy, a culturally responsive approach to teaching, fluency in multiple student-centered instructional approaches, experience working with College Board and ACT, proficiency with Mac platforms, a commitment to student life, dedication to professional growth, and the ability to model contemplation as part of intellectual exploration.
Salary and Request
The starting salary range for this position is $75,000 to $105,000, based on experience and expertise.
