Han Mi Ok was once a Korean beauty icon in her time. He used to be admired for his elegant facial features and charming smile. Unfortunately, all of that was destroyed after the woman tried to change her appearance. After undergoing plastic surgery that turned into a disaster, her life was no longer the same.
Han Mi Ok is a singer and model in the 1980s. Thanks to her beauty, this woman quickly gained popularity and even moved to Japan to develop her career. Unfortunately, intense competition in the entertainment industry eroded Han Mi Ok’s self-confidence until she turned to plastic surgery.
Reported by Kbizoom, Han Mi Ok became obsessed with beauty and always felt less than charming. He thought his face was not sharp enough and his chin was not slim enough. He then underwent various cosmetic procedures which ended up destroying his career.

Starting from wanting to be more confident, Han Mi Ok’s efforts to be beautiful gradually became more extreme. After dozens of operations, her face began to harden and change shape. Professional surgeons even refused to operate because they found the woman to be psychologically unstable.
But Han Mi Ok already felt hopeless and didn’t want to stop. He then turned to an illegal clinic and ended up relying on himself. When she can no longer afford black market silicone, Han Mi Ok makes the horrific decision to inject cooking oil and paraffin directly into her face. This causes severe swelling and irreversible deformation. Her head had become almost three times larger than her body, while her once beautiful facial features had become submerged.
“I became a monster. The kids in my neighborhood called me ‘fan-faced grandma’ because my face stretched over my small body. I cried, but even my tears couldn’t penetrate that skin,” Han Mi Ok sadly said when interviewed in 2004.

In 2004, Han Mi Ok’s story was revealed on the SBS show ‘Capture the Moment: How Is That Possible’ which shocked the whole country. Public sympathy made quite a few people want to help raise funds for his medical treatment. Han Mi Ok finally underwent 17 operations to remove foreign objects from her face.
The doctors finally succeeded in removing liters of silicone and cooking oil from his head and neck. Although the size of his face decreased, the damage was irreversible. Severe scars, eyes that wouldn’t close completely, and chronic pain were part of his daily life.
In the last years of her life, Han Mi Ok was able to live her days more calmly. To make ends meet, he works in a thrift shop and relies on social assistance. Apart from that, Han Mi Ok avoids public attention and always wears a mask every time she leaves the house.

In December 2018, Han Mi Ok died at home at the age of 57. The exact cause of his death was not revealed to the public, but it is known that he died in silence and solitude while refusing to see his own face. His life story leaves deep sadness. The public sympathizes with Han Mi Ok for being a victim of harsh beauty standards and a psychological illness that cannot be treated.
