Keira Knightley Defends JK Rowling Amid Harry Potter Boycott

The British actress assures that she was not aware of the call to boycott Harry Potter before lending her voice to a new audio adaptation.

Controversies that stick to JK Rowling’s skin. Keira Knightley, who lends her voice to the character of Dolores Jane Umbridge, in the new audiobook series Harry Potter : The Full Cast Audio Editions, claims that she “wasn’t aware” of the call for a boycott targeting Harry Potter. The latter was triggered by statements deemed transphobic by JK Rowling. “I’m sorry. You know, I feel like we’re living in a time where we’re all going to have to learn to live with each other, don’t you think? We all have different opinions. I wish we could all respect each other”she said in an interview with the American site Decider .

In full promotion of the film The missing person from cabin 10currently streaming on Netflix, Keira Knightley attempts to ease tensions over JK Rowling. For several years, the author of the Harry Potter saga has been singled out for her positions deemed transphobic, notably in 2020, where she published a post on her blog in which the author cites five reasons which push her to worry about the new « transactivisme ».

A cast of 200 voice actors

Among the list of other actors joining the cast of more than 200 voice actors for Harry Potter : The Full Cast Audio Editionsfeature Hugh Laurie in the role of Albus Dumbledore, Matthew Macfadyen in that of Lord Voldemort, Riz Ahmed in that of Professor Snape, Michelle Gomez in that of Professor McGonagall, and Simon Pegg in that of Arthur Weasley.

For his series Harry Potter : The Full Cast Audio Editionsaudiobook expert Audible has planned the recording of seven volumes. The recording of The School of Sorcerers will be released on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. The other six audiobooks will be posted online at the rate of one each month. According to the company, the production totals more than 2,000 hours of recording.
