The Cuban opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer García reported that his wife, doctor Nelva Ismaray Ortega, had to be urgently transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital due to complications in her health during pregnancy.
Through a message posted on Facebook and a video addressed to friends, compatriots and members of the Cuban community, Ferrer explained that his wife is experiencing severe pain and an increase in bleeding, despite the previous medical treatment and rest ordered the previous day for similar problems.
“My wife is back in the emergency room… She continues to have severe pain and bleeding. Treatment and rest have not helped yet,” he wrote, asking for prayers and good wishes for both her and the baby she is expecting.
In his video clip, Ferrer explained that the situation required a new hospitalization as symptoms worsened.
He explained that he couldn’t accompany her because he looks after his mother, who is confined to bedand his six-year-old son Daniel José.
According to his account, his wife had tried to relieve herself that morning with painkillers and rest, but the outcome was unfavorable.
The opposition leader stressed that the emotional impact of the situation had been particularly hard on his wife, who, he said, was suffering more from the possibility of losing the pregnancy than from the physical pain itself.
“She really wants it, and I also want it, to give our little Daniel José a brother or a sister,” she said.
Ferrer attributed his wife’s deteriorating health to the physical exertion of the past few days, which took place in the midst of a complex family situation, and renewed his call for spiritual solidarity from friends, relatives and loved ones.
“Oren please pray to God for my wife’s health and for the developing baby,” he urged.
The news comes shortly after Ferrer has publicly announced that his wife is pregnantinformation he shared with enthusiasm, even though he already pointed out that the pregnancy carried significant risks.
At that moment, he explained that Nelva had gone to the hospital after experiencing abdominal pain and bleeding after several days of increased discomfort caused by physical exertion related to caring for the opposition politician’s mother, who is in hospital with a broken leg.
According to information at the time, the doctor was in the first weeks of pregnancy, received medical attention, clinical analyzes and medication, and was sent home with instructions to have absolute rest and close follow-up.
The couple, who built their relationship amid political persecution, community work and exile, have publicly shared the emotional significance of this pregnancy.
For both of them, the opportunity to expand their family is not only a personal joy, but also a sign of hope after years of pressure, restrictions and difficulties.
Until now, Ferrer has asked for respect, companionship and prayers while his wife is under medical observation, with the hope that professionals can stabilize her condition and protect the life that is developing.
