Agents of the Puerto Rico Police, assigned to the Puerto Nuevo Precinct, investigate an assault reported after a minor traffic accident that occurred on Franklin Delano Roosevelt Avenue, in front of a Subway restaurant, in Puerto Nuevo.
According to preliminary information, the former mayor of San Juan, Jorge Santini Padilla, 66, was traveling through the place in a black 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe bus when a man left the establishment without taking due precautions and was hit by the side mirror of the vehicle.
According to Inspector Edwin Figueroa, director of the Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) of San Juan, after the incident Santini stopped to verify what happened. However, the individual allegedly became aggressive and punched him in the face.
During the attack, Santini fell to the pavement and suffered a head injury, for which he was transported to an area hospital for medical attention.
The alleged attacker was also arrested by officers who were near the scene and later taken to a hospital for medical assistance.
Figueroa explained that the man was carrying out maintenance work at the place and that it was when he left the premises towards the road that the impact with the vehicle’s mirror occurred.
“Both Mr. Santini and the individual are stable,” the official said.
The director of the CIC added that the authorities maintain communication with the San Juan Prosecutor’s Office for the possible filing of charges against the detainee. Likewise, he pointed out that the alleged aggressor has a previous record for a case of robbery in a commercial establishment.
