Former ice hockey professional Jens Baxmann will be the new sports director at DEL promoted team Dresdner Eislöwen. As the club announced, the 40-year-old is moving immediately from the second division ice hockey team Lausitzer Füchse to the Elbe and is signing a three-year contract.

Baxmann is the successor to Matthias Roos, who was relieved of his duties as sporting director of the bottom team in November following the separation from coach Niklas Sundblad.

As a defender, Baxmann played 939 games for Eisbären Berlin and Iserlohn Roosters in Germany between 2003 and 2022, among others Eishockey League and was used 39 times for the German national team. With the Berliners he celebrated seven German championship titles by 2019.

Dresden is bottom of the table

For the 2021/22 season, Baxmann moved from the DEL to the Lausitzer Füchsen in the DEL2. However, a serious eye injury forced him to end his active career early in January 2022. He then took on the position of sports advisor at the Lausitzer team before becoming a sports director and sports director in Weißwasser after completing a part-time distance learning course in sports management. The contract with the second division club has now been terminated by mutual agreement.

“In Dresden we are facing a challenging task in which we have to clearly map out two sporting planning scenarios in the coming weeks. As a player, I personally experienced in Iserlohn what it means to throw everything into the balance to stay in the league,” said Baxmann. The newcomer from Dresden is currently 13 points behind second-to-last Frankfurt after 36 games.
