With the launch of iOS 26, Apple brings a wave of news that makes the phone app a real personal assistant. The update has already been distributed to older iPhones, while the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air series come with the new pre-installed software.
Apple introduces three functions that can redefine how we manage calls: Call Screening, Hold Assist and Live Translation.

The most useful surprise is call screening. When an unknown number calls you, the function automatically responds and asks the caller to explain why they contact you. In real time, the message is transcribed on the screen, and you decide if you want to take over the call.
Another innovation is Hold Assist, designed for frustrating times when you are on “waiting” at the call-center. The phone remains connected in your place and notifies you only when an operator is available so you don’t waste time listening to background music.
For those who often communicate with people from other countries, Live Translation brings instant translation directly to the screen. The function uses you Local and can be used not only in the phone application, but also in FaceTime and Messages.
In addition, iOS 26 adds a filter for unknown calls, which automatically moves these contacts to a separate list, “Unknown Callers“, avoiding unnecessary interruptions.
Even if some functions are not yet available in Romania, Apple clearly shows the direction in which it goes: a phone that not only receives calls, but filters, translates and optimizes, for the user to earn time and control.
