Bloomberg — Intel Corp (INTC) introduced laptops based on processors with a new designas part of the chipmaker’s effort to make its products competitive again.

Updated laptops from leading global manufacturers will feature Intel processors with Panther Lake design and improved manufacturing technique, the chipmaker announced Monday during a presentation at the CES show in Las Vegas. Orders for consumer laptops with the new chips will begin Tuesday, according to the company. and will be available worldwide starting January 27.
The new laptops will offer consumers a jump in performance, especially in running AI software, according to Jim Johnson, Senior Vice President, Intel. The company previously unveiled Panther Lake technology at an event in October.
“Both the industry and Intel are at a strategic turning point in 2026“Johnson said. AI is “a huge opportunity for all of us.”
The company also said it plans launch a platform for portable video game devicesand that there will be more news from partners later this year.
The performance of the new products is vital to the recovery plans of the embattled chipmaker, which now has the backing of the US government. They are designed to regain market share and be proof that the company’s manufacturing is good enough to get custom chip contracts, a still incipient business for Intel.
CEO Lip-Bu Tan needs his company’s operations to start showing progress. In 2025, it focused on cutting costs and attracting investment in an unusual series of deals. The US government has become the chipmaker’s biggest backer as part of a deal brokered by the White House, and Nvidia Corp (NVDA) and SoftBank Group Corp have acquired multimillion-dollar stakes.
Although deal talks have lifted Intel’s stock price, the company has yet to show that the underlying business is regaining strength.
Intel’s push to make chips for outside customers – becoming what’s known as a foundry – means facing Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd. That company dominates the foundry industry, with South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co a distant second. Intel itself has outsourced part of the production to TSMC, a recognition of that company’s capabilities.
Although Intel has said it will continue to rely on TSMC, your new 18A processon which Panther Lake is based, is a bid to once again manufacture its best offerings in-house. The technology contains two new features that Intel says are a breakthrough for the industry.
The first refers to transistors, the microscopic switches that give semiconductors their function. modern chips cramming tens of billions of transistors into a small area. For chips to be more efficient and consume less power, the ability to turn these transistors on and off becomes a critical factor.
The 18A products will be the first to have transistors manufactured with the so-called technology gate-all-arounda technique that allows finer control of this process, according to Intel. That will pave the way for chips with more transistors – and the ability to handle increasing amounts of data – that consume less power.
