TOKYO – Japan and India are set to substantially enhance their collaboration across various domains, including trade, security, technology, and people-to-people exchanges.This move underscores the deepening strategic partnership between the two nations, particularly amid growing international apprehension regarding unilateral tariffs imposed by the U.S.

“Japan is a tech powerhouse, and India is a talent powerhouse,” said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an economic forum in Tokyo on Friday. He is currently on a two-day visit to Japan. The forum preceded a summit with prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, where numerous cooperation agreements are expected to be signed.

Prime Minister Modi, who previously visited Japan in 2023 for a Group of Seven leaders’ summit in Hiroshima, is actively seeking increased support for his “Make in India” initiative. He urged industry leaders to strengthen cooperation in five specific areas: manufacturing, tech and innovation, green energy, next-generation infrastructure, and skills development.
