The PvP raid shooter “Highguard” from Wildlight Entertainment is now available to download for free from the Xbox Store for Xbox Series X|S. Even though the title is the studio’s first game, the developers still have a lot of experience. They previously worked at Respawn on “Apex Legends” and “Titanfall.”
In Highguard, players take on the role of Guardians – mysterious gunslingers sent to gain control of a mythical continent where magic, firefights and sieges collide:
- Teams of three select a specific base and fortify its defenses, then ride across vast, unknown territories, looting, gathering resources and upgrading their equipment as they face a rival Guardian crew.
- Amid magical storms, teams fight for the Shieldbreaker, a powerful sword and the only way to break through the enemy’s defenses. Whoever transports the Shieldbreaker to the enemy base starts a raid. During a raid, teams must attack, defend, adapt and steadily increase their power as the match progresses.
- Most of the time a single raid is not enough to win. In this case, the enemy base’s shields are repaired, the siege tower disappears, and the battle continues to escalate. Loot, equipment and weapons on the battlefield receive upgrades and a new Shieldbreaker appears elsewhere in the world. From there, the battle for control continues – until only one base remains.
Each Guardian is specifically designed for PvP raid mode. Guardians combine weapons, raid tools, and arcane abilities, each defined for raiding, destruction, defense, infiltration, resource gathering, and open-world combat.
Mounts allow teams to quickly move across massive maps, fight on the go, and transport the Shieldbreaker. Magical abilities add to the combat, but Highguard is still a shooter at its core. Gunplay remains central, with skills and tools providing tactical depth.
At launch, the game offers a variety of content: five large maps, six different bases, eight guards, three mount types, ten weapons, three raid tools, eleven weapon and raid tool mods and a selection of loot items. More content will be added through seasonal updates.
