SC DHfK Leipzig continues to fret about remaining in the handball Bundesliga. Despite a large lead at times, there were no two points against ThSV Eisenach. Meanwhile, the guests were able to celebrate their first point in a foreign hall.

The two eastern clubs split 29:29 (15:13) in front of 6,000 fans in the trade fair city. The point gain is not enough for the Saxons, Frank Carstens’ team has to wait for their second home win of the season. Leipzig climbs to second-to-last place for the time being, the gap to the saving bank is now two points.

Semper extends and scores and scores

Before the game there was the first cheer from the home fans. The contract of top scorer and national player Franz Semper was extended regardless of the league. The Borna native also became the man of the first half, netting six times. The SC DHfK led narrowly for a long time until Moritz Ende briefly put the guests in front (5:6/9th minute). But supported by Semper, Leipzig picked up again and the national player took a four-goal lead (13:9) in the 19th minute.

Even though Eisenach’s defense was light and DHfK keeper Tomas Mrkva couldn’t hold onto a ball, the lead remained large for a long time. Which was also due to a total of five two-minute penalties on the ThSV side. But shortly before the break, the Thuringians came close again and even had the chance to score a goal, but Max Beneke hit the crossbar with his last throw.

Tomas Mrkva didn’t hold the ball in the first half and was substituted for Domenico Ebner.

Ebner’s saves are not enough to win

Leipzig came out of the locker room better, even if both defenses were now more stable. Semper brought his colors back four goals ahead with the 18:14. But the guests didn’t let up and equalized after a 3-0 run just under ten minutes before the end (22:22). The Saxons, for their part, were now shaking, but they could rely on Domenico Ebner. The keeper parried eight shots in the second half and saved a strong 35 percent of the shots. But in the end it wasn’t enough to win because Leipzig lost two too many balls when they were outnumbered. The last attack belonged to ThSV, but Stephan Seitz couldn’t get the throw on goal.

Felix Aellen’s five goals were enough for Eisenach to win the point. In the end there was even victory.

Leipzig continues on Easter Sunday in Berlin against the Füchse, Eisenach plays at THW Kiel the day before.
