Easter march in Augsburg: “Billions for people instead of weapons”
On Easter Saturday, April 4, 2026, the Augsburg Peace Initiative (AFI) is calling for the traditional Easter march. The event is part of the nationwide Easter March movement, which demonstrates for peace, disarmament and diplomacy in more than 100 cities and communities.

It starts at 11.30 a.m. with a rally on Moritzplatz. Representatives of various initiatives will speak there, including the VVN-BdA Augsburg, the DFG-VK Augsburg and pax christi Augsburg. The Augsburg project “Zeitenwende” provides musical accompaniment with peace songs to sing along to. Afterwards, a demonstration moves through the city center, accompanied by the drum group “Sambamania”.
A Christian-Muslim peace prayer begins at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Anna goldsmith chapel, organized by pax christi and the “Young Dialogue of Religions”.
In terms of content, this year’s Easter March is directed against increasing military spending and the increasing militarization of society. Under the motto “Billions for people instead of weapons”, the organizers particularly criticize the growing defense budgets and instead call for investments in social issues, education and climate protection. Peace can only be achieved through diplomacy, disarmament and international understanding, was the tenor of the call.
The AFI, a non-partisan alliance of organizations and individuals, has been committed against war and for human rights and international law since 1980. In addition to the Easter March, she also regularly organizes the Augsburg Peace Weeks.
