President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturian and President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili provided an update on their talks in Tbilisi during statements to the media.

President Vahagn Khachaturian said in his speech:

“It is a great pleasure to be again in Georgia, a hospitable and sister land. I would like to thank you once again for the warm welcome you gave me and my delegation during our visit. I was happy to see you again after our friendly and constructive meeting in Yerevan. This meeting once again underlines the importance we attach to strong and close good neighborly relations between our two countries.

Armenia and the Armenian people occupy a special place in Armenian-Georgian relations, based on centuries-old history and traditions, as well as mutual respect. The frequency of high-level visits and bilateral contacts in recent times testifies to the intensity of relations between Armenia and Georgia.

The close cooperation between our two States has allowed us to reach a historic milestone: the elevation of our cooperation to the rank of strategic partnership. It is common knowledge that our cooperation with Georgia has always been… Strategic in nature, this cooperation has now been formalized at the official level.

I had very productive and enriching discussions today with my esteemed colleague. During our discussions with President Kavelashvili, we discussed bilateral multi-sectoral cooperation and next steps aimed at further developing the strategic partnership between Armenia and Georgia.

Our discussions also covered bilateral economic cooperation, as well as a wide range of issues related to transport, tourism, energy, business, investment, culture, education and youth.

I would like to emphasize that Armenia is actively preparing to host the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) and the 8th Summit of the European Political Community in 2026. We look forward to Georgia’s participation.

In addition to the bilateral issues discussed with Mr. President, we also discussed regional news.

I discussed the results of the trilateral meeting held in Washington on August 8 and the economic prospects that will result from it. Unblocking regional infrastructure. This process is fully in line with the vision of the “Crossroads of Peace” project presented by the Armenian government.

I reaffirmed that the institutionalization of peace and connectivity in the region, based on the fundamental principles of sovereignty, jurisdiction, equality and reciprocity, is a priority for Armenia. We are convinced that the lasting peace and stability established between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the complete unblocking of transport and communication routes in the region, including through the TRIPP project, will make the South Caucasus an effective transit and logistics hub, contributing to regional and global connectivity.

The opening of regional communications will also provide Georgia with the opportunity to establish a connection with the Persian Gulf, and the commissioning of the Gyumri-Kars railway line by Georgian Railways can become an important element of the Europe-Central Asia corridor.

Strengthening and ensuring lasting peace, stability and security, cooperation between States and peoples, as well as building a prosperous future, is a common responsibility. of the international community.

In conclusion, I would like to thank you once again for the warm welcome given to the Armenian delegation and to reaffirm my commitment, as President of the Republic of Armenia, to work towards strengthening and deepening cooperation between Armenia and Georgia. »
