Not only the Middle East, the situation in Greenland is also getting hotter. France has now sent the flagship aircraft carrier of the French Navy, Charles de Gaulle, to Atlantic waters.

Reported by AFP, Tuesday (27/1/2026), France sent an aircraft carrier to the Greenland region after the United States (US) and Europe had a dispute regarding Greenland.

“The French Navy’s flagship aircraft carrier, the Charles de Gaulle, sailed for the Atlantic on Tuesday,” the French Defense Ministry said.

“On Wednesday, French President Emmanuel Macron will meet the leaders of Denmark and Greenland in Paris,” continued the French Defense Ministry statement.

The French defense ministry did not specify where Charles de Gaulle would be stationed. However, sources familiar with the matter told AFP that the carrier was headed for the North Atlantic, which has been at the center of geopolitical tensions.

“The naval air group has sailed from Toulon naval base to take part in Orion 26, a large-scale joint and allied exercise,” the French defense ministry said.

“This exercise, which will be carried out in the coming weeks in the Atlantic zone – a strategic area for the defense of European interests – will unite French forces alongside their regional allies and partners.”

For your information, the European alliance united when US President Donald Trump this month weakened the transatlantic alliance by threatening to seize the autonomous Danish region. Greenland is strategically located between the Arctic Ocean and the North Atlantic Ocean.

Carrier strike groups include aircraft carriers and their aircraft, as well as various escort and support vessels, such as air defense frigates, supply ships, and attack submarines.

None of the sources interviewed by AFP said how far in the North Atlantic the carrier strike group would sail. Russian submarines from the Northern Fleet or Baltic Fleet regularly pass through the North Atlantic Ocean.
