A light plane reportedly crashed in the Greenland mountains on Monday (27/10). There were no victims who survived the accident.

The Danish Airports Authority said the plane reportedly disappeared from radar on Saturday (25/10) when it passed over Sermitsiaq Island, which is north of Greenland’s capital, Nuuk. The small plane took off from Canada.

“This morning the crash site was located, and unfortunately, there are no survivors,” Naviair said in a statement quoted by AFP.

According to local Greenland media reports, the crash site was only identified after the thick fog that blanketed the region over the weekend began to dissipate.

Greenland police said the wreckage of the plane was found on Mount Sermitsiaq, but the location was very difficult to reach, making evacuation efforts and further investigations difficult.

“The plane was found on Mount Sermitsiaq, but in an area that is currently inaccessible, making it difficult for authorities to take further action,” Brian Thomsen of the Greenland Police told local daily Sermitsiaq.

Authorities have not released information regarding the victim’s identity or the cause of the crash. There were no survivors from the accident. The only person on board the plane was confirmed dead.

Naviair, according to an Anadolu Agency report, confirmed that the Cessna T182 light aircraft was registered in the name of a United States (US) company, which was not named further.

The light plane flew from the region of Newfoundland and Labrador, which is a province to the east of Canada, before losing contact over the Greenland region at the weekend.
