Greece Natural Gas Exports Surge 660% | Latest Data

by drbyos

Greek gas operator DESFA reported that total natural gas demand reached 56.36 terawatt hours (TWh) in the first nine months of 2025, up 16.66% from volumes in the same period in 2024.
The significant increase is mainly due to the increase in exports, which
stands at 5.06 TWh (down from just 0.66 TWh in 2024), a jump of over 660%.

Domestic consumption also increased – by 7.66%, being
reached 51.30 TWh compared to 47.65 TWh last year.

The biggest consumers of natural gas are electricity producers – they hold 71% (36.45 TWh) of the total consumption.

The flows through the gas distribution networks are se
increased by 18.05% to 9.42 TWh, representing 18% of domestic
gas demand.

Industrial users and CNG stations are 5.43 TWh of
gas consumption, which is down 16.97% and accounts for 11% of
domestic consumption.

In the import

the role of the HSG is significantly strengthened. LNG accounts for more than 40% of total export shipments – compared to roughly 26% in the first nine months of 2024.

Agia Triada (Revitousa) is a key entry point, followed by Amphitrite (FSRU Alexandroupolis). Although Revitusa
suspended operations between May 22 and June 11 for scheduled maintenance, the terminal is
covered 39% of the total gas imports in the country. It has welcomed 36 LNG tankers,
which is more than double the 17 tankers during the same period in 2024.
Offloaded volumes amounted to 22.41 TWh, an increase of 81.60% in
compared to 12.34 TWh in 2024. Amphitrite imported 1.03 TWh of LNG
until January 22, when regasification services are temporarily suspended.
The US was the main supplier of LNG, with volumes reaching 19.62 TWh
(88% of the total), compared to 8.02 TWh last year. Nigeria is on
second place with 1.37 TWh, followed by Norway with 0.93 TWh and Algeria with 0.49 TWh.

On the pipes

Pipeline imports have decreased. Sidirokastro registered 25.46 TWh,
which is 45% of the total gas imports in the country – a decrease of 3.3% compared to last year.

Imports via Nea Mesemvria (TAP interconnection) reached 8.20 TWh, down 14.67% from 9.61 TWh in 2024.

In transport
DESFA’s truck loading service for LNG transportation in
the Revitusa terminal reported strong growth, as in the first nine months of
2025, 494 trucks were loaded (compared to 174 in the same period
last year), which transported 148.05 GWh compared to 51.28 GWh
in 2024 – a threefold increase.

These numbers confirm that the service represents a flexible and effective solution for covering
the energy needs of remote distribution networks and industrial
users, DESFA points out.
