In the wake of trying times, a Louisville nonprofit stepped up to help lift the community’s spirit.On Friday, Neighborhood House, in Portland, hosted a free concert and donation drive at its community center.The Louisville Orchestra performed as part of their “Music Without Borders” series.Heaven Hill Brands also helped provide 400 meals for families.The event came amid the ongoing government shutdown, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program delays, and the tragic UPS plane crash.Organizers said they believe Louisville could use a bit of joy during such a tough week.”I think we’re all feeling it, and it is one of the things that is important when times are tough is to find a little joy,” said Jennie Jean Davidson with Neighborhood House. “The orchestra is always such a joyous experience, and music always makes people feel better. And then we’re also able to support our families with a little bit of food.”Attendees were also encouraged to bring nonperishable food and household items to help restock the organization’s food pantry.
