– I have tickets for all the opening games for Norway in Boston and New York. The roommate was lucky enough to win two tickets in a competition. So it was just a matter of booking travel and accommodation. I am very much looking forward to following Ståle Solbakken and the Norwegian national football team up close in the States. I think that will be a memory for life, says Sondre to Glåmdalen.
Seeing Bodø/Glimt beat Manchester City was also a memory for life. That in a match where the world’s best football team in the last ten years had a lot to play for. City had to win to have a good chance of being among the top eight, which means that Dean goes straight to the round of 16. After the loss, the English now risk having to play playoff games for further advancement.
Big and special moment
– It is incredible that 8,000 spectators can create as good a mood and atmosphere as the Glimt supporters do. It was a real witch’s cauldron at Aspmyra when they met Tottenham. I would almost say that it was a step up when the first victory in the Champions League was a fact. It was fully on par with Premier League matches, and other big matches I’ve been to.
– What makes you feel so strongly about Glimt and the national football team?
– When it comes to Glimt, it is about what the club has created without rich uncles and owners. The boys play with their hearts far beyond the kit, and they have a wonderful group of supporters. It is well done by a team that comes north of the Arctic Circle to take the step into the Champions League and in the most rewarding club tournament of all, says the 35-year-old from Sør-Odal.
Has a feeling for the northerners
Sondre works for a company that supplies products to the farming industry in Northern Norway. He therefore knows many northerners. The former Sander player says that he has a sense for the lightning and offensiveness of the northerners. Both in business and on the football field.
– Bodø/Glimt has broken several barriers and shown the way. What they have achieved is quite unique. It is unique that a few years ago a club played in the same division as KIL, playing against the best teams in Europe and on the biggest stage of all. It says most about the journey they have had after Kjetil Knutsen came to Bodø and took over the team, says Bråthen Geitz.
There will be more Bodø trips
The local Glimt supporter is aware that there will be more trips to Bodø in connection with football. Among other things, Sondre wants to experience the new magnificent stadium facility, which has a price tag of NOK 1.2 billion, when the stadium is completed in a year and a half. But it is also likely that there will be more Aspmyra trips, even if it costs a little to travel north to watch matches.
– I think it’s worth it because the atmosphere and commitment is so great. It’s fun to think that I have caught the best club match that has ever been played on Norwegian soil, says he, who has many football treats in store for the next six months. Both with Bodø/Glimt and the national football team, which two guys from Grue have taken to new heights.
