Kenyan authorities have launched investigations following a video shared by a Spanish tourist showing him pouring beer into an elephant’s mouth. The incident, captured on video, has ignited debate and concern over wildlife interaction protocols.
The video,originally posted on Instagram,depicted the tourist offering a local beer to an elephant during a wildlife reserve visit. The caption read, “Just a shower with my fangman’s friend.” The post was later deleted after a wave of criticism from Kenyan social media users.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the OL Jogi wildlife conservancy in Laikipia County. Wildlife Reserve officials expressed their dismay, emphasizing the need to prevent such interactions. The elephant in the video is reportedly “Bupa”,an elephant rescued from Zimbabwe in 1989 and relocated to the Kenya Reserve at the age of eight,where approximately 500 elephants reside.
The tourist,who identifies as an “adrenaline addict” on TikTok,also posted a separate video showing him feeding carrots to a rhinoceros at another nearby nature reserve. “He violated our rules because he should not touch the rhinoceros because they are not pets,” explained Dylan Habil, an employee at the OL Pejeta nature reserve.
