
At least 14 people died from immersion after the collapse of a mine in the Cuatro Esquinas road corridor, Hanzas sector of the El Callao municipality, in Bolívar state.

The newspaper Correo del Caroní reported that the victims lost their lives in this gold extraction area, divided into three wells between 30 to 40 meters deep, during the night of Sunday. due to the heavy rainfall recorded in the town.
Mayor Coromoto Lugo pointed out for his part that the vehicular passage to the industrial zone of Caratal remains closed due to flooding on the road, which affects more than 5,000 people.
“We have the passage interrupted, the one that connects El Callao with Caratal and the Minerven company. There is a ravine that they call the Caratal basin, that basin, as water is already flowing, prevents the passage,” the municipal authority expressed to the local media.
Mining accidents
Between May and August of this year, at least 19 people died in 16 mining accidents. According to the NGO SOS Orinoco, most of the accidents have occurred in the Sifontes and El Callao municipalities of Bolívar state.
With the collection of this data, the organization confirmed 29 fatalities so far in 2025, a figure that rises to 43 deaths with the accident recorded this October 13.
